Horizon Art offers intensive studio art portfolio preparation classes in drawing, painting and mixed media. It is designed for rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who are interested in majoring art and design in college. Our program prepares students to apply to fine arts degree programs in order to pursue careers in Art, Craft and Design.

The program encourages the growth of students' practical and critical skills while maintaining an open and creative approach to art and design. The aim is ultimately to prepare a portfolio to gain entry into Art Colleges in USA, Canada, Italy and UK.

What we teach     During the program, beginners are introduced to basic drawing techniques and materials. We expect students to develop their abilities to perceive and render forms in space. The classes focus on line, value, composition, linear and atmospheric perspective. The emphasis throughout is on drawing from observation. Over the months, our instructors work with the students to develop basic methods and skills in drawing, with the goal of producing quality work for their portfolios. Emphasis is placed on drawing from real objects in natural settings. Students learn the importance of careful observation and articulation of space, volume, tonal value, light and compositional clarity and learn how to analyze and articulate the world around them in visual terms. Throughout the program, painting is also introduced. Students will paint from life with the objective of building and strengthening painting skills, and with special attention to composition, color and light. The materials used will be acrylics on canvas board and the subject matter will include still life, figurative, portraiture and landscape.

We encourage our students to try different ideas and techniques and be brave with their expressions in order to have an open and creative approach to art and design. Students will explore a broad range of art and design activities by using mixed media and will build a balanced portfolio.
